A Day at DHPS: A Glimpse into Primary-School Life

On 8 March 2025, the playground of the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) primary school was buzzing with activity – but this time, it wasn’t the usual learners. Instead, pre-school children and their parents were the day’s special guests.
During the DHPS Primary School Open Day, the school provided enrolment information, invited parents and visitors on an extensive tour of the large DHPS campus and offered insights into the classrooms and the wide range of programmes at Namibia’s only German international school.
The trial day for children starting grade 1 in 2026 was well attended. Many eager future learners got a first taste of classroom life and a chance to meet their future teachers and classmates.
Many parents and families choose DHPS for the opportunities it provides. Parents interested in their children training or studying in Germany and Europe see DHPS as the only suitable option.
The German school-leaving qualifications at DHPS – the Realschulabschluss and especially the Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA) – are unique in Namibia and offer direct access to training and study institutions in Germany.
The DIA stands out for its diversity: It offers offers bilingual education, is recognised by universities worldwide, features modern examination formats and prepares learners for global challenges.
These features make the DIA a unique and valuable qualification for learners aiming for international academic and professional opportunities – and many parents consider this when choosing the primary school.
In addition to information about future prospects, the Open Day included fun activities. A jumping castle and face painting entertained the children, while the grade 11 committee provided food and drinks and parents, teachers and DHPS staff had time to interact.
A big thank you to all the management, teachers from the DHPS primary school, administrative staff, the support centre, the DHPS Child & Youth Centre, the boarding school and the DHPS Kinder-Campus, who made this day a great success provided the many visitors with helpful information and a smile.
