The Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) is
expanding its international network!
Starting in September 2025, two young
people from Germany will have the chance to complete an Internationalen
Jugendfreiwilligendienst (International Youth Volunteer Service (IJFD))
internship at the school. This opportunity comes from a new partnership with
the Internationaler Bund (IB), one of Germany’s leading organisations for
voluntary services abroad.
A Strong
Partnership for Cultural Exchange
The new cooperation between DHPS Windhoek and the IB -
Volunteers' Abroad Programme creates a sustainable partnership that provides
young adults with valuable educational and intercultural experiences. The
initiative was launched by Nils Osewold, Head of the DHPS Kinder-Campus.
The volunteers will spend one year working in one of two
key areas at DHPS:
- DHPS Kinder-Campus
(crèche, kindergarten, pre-school): Helping the team with daily
activities, supporting educational programmes, and assisting with language
development.
- DHPS Child
and Youth Centre (CYC): Helping with homework and afternoon supervision,
organising leisure activities, and supporting holiday programmes for
children and youth from Grades 1 to 9.
DHPS will provide professional guidance, supervision,
and accommodation, while IB VAP will handle the educational support and overall
organisation of the volunteer programme.
Learning Through
Volunteering
The Internationaler Jugendfreiwilligendienst is funded
by the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and
Youth (BMFSFJ). It offers young people aged 18 to 27 the chance to work on
social, cultural, or environmental projects around the world. Volunteers
receive:
✔
Introductory and support seminars before, during and after their
service
✔ Monthly pocket money of 100 euros
✔ Accommodation in a shared house at DHPS
✔ Basic
catering
In return, they bring new ideas, commitment, and fresh
intercultural perspectives to working with children and young people.
A Year Full of
Opportunities
With this new partnership, DHPS is strengthening its
focus on international education and cultural exchange. “We believe this
voluntary service is a valuable experience—not only for the volunteers but also
for our children, young people, and the entire DHPS team,” says Nils Osewold.
Young people from Germany who are interested in
volunteering in Namibia can apply through the IB.
