The Sports Olympiad of German Schools in
Southern Africa, held from 13 to 19 March 2025 at the German International
School Cape Town (DSK), was a successful event that highlighted not only the
athletic abilities, but also the strong team spirit and fair play of the team
from the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS).
A total of 48 DHPS
learners competed in athletics, swimming and ball games against approximately
250 participants from German schools in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria and
Hermannsburg.
In the swimming competitions, the DHPS team
displayed impressive skill, dedication and determination, securing a solid
third place.
The athletics competitions also brought
many exciting moments, particularly with Edo Daun's exceptional performance in
the high jump: Edo not only took first place, but also set a new high jump
record.
In volleyball, the DHPS boys' team
delivered a strong performance and earned second place. The DHPS girls' team
also impressed, winning a hard-fought match against Johannesburg with a narrow
30-29 victory.
However, the event was not just about
medals.
The ball games highlighted the true spirit
of the Sports Olympiad - sportsmanship, unity and mutual respect. Teams
celebrated each other’s successes - which emphasises the spirit that defines
this event.
Overall, the 2025 Sports Olympiad was a
positive experience for both the community and the athletes. In the final
standings, the DHPS team achieved an excellent third place -congratulations!
Thank you to the entire DSK team, organisers and host families. It was wonderful - a heartfelt thank you!
A special thank you goes to our sponsors
for their invaluable support that made this event possible. Your generosity is
greatly appreciated by the school, the DHPS team members and the entire school
community – thank you!
